As part of DPI Plastics multi-pronged corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, HR Executive, Hendrick Mokolane and Marketing Executive, Bob Haynes visited Alexandra in JHB to establish a way forward in assisting Mrs Mazibuko in her attempt to supplement the feeding of 1400 school children in the town. She and her team had created a mini garden but required help in the areas of irrigation, soil management and protection from birds. DPI Plastics executive committee adopted the project in July and set about turning on the taps toward yet another successful CSR project.
“Water for all” soon became “water for Alexandra” together with an irrigation system and 1100m² of shade cloth structure. A contractor was appointed to build the structure and install a poly pipe system. The ground was leveled, crops were planted and it’s all systems go. January will see the official opening of the garden and hopefully the witnessing of a bumper crop!
